Dean Humphry – Being User Friendly

In this Lecture Dean presented a lot of people skills that are considered important within the creative industry. I believe a lot of these skills are transferable to many everyday situations too.

His lecture covered reminders in people politics as he called them such as flowing with the dance of a team, avoiding a stubborn attitude and being an open minded individual to best work with anybody. Reminding yourself that just because you believe in a certain way of doing things, if someone does it differently it doesn’t mean they don’t know what they are doing. As much as you have an idea about something, prepare yourself for the times that you are wrong about something. This is not a bad thing as you allow yourself to become more conditioned and learn from others instead of sticking to your own ways.

Mr Humphry drew out some of the most important things to employers that you do as an employee –

  • Timekeeping
  • Being Reliant
  • A Teamplayer
  • Happy/Positive
  • Proactive
  • Optimistic
  • And a having a “not a problem” attitude.

He made us acknowledge that everyone gets tired in the industry, but going on about it will generate no sympathy.

In preparation for meetings in general as an employee you are at least expected to –

  • Dress Smart
  • Make Eye contact
  • Sit up Straight
  • Be there in advance
