So with our first main focus set as mentioned before,

‘To Create a hip-hopera concept album with a progressive sci-fi inspired narrative, using Alméns’ sibling model.’

After looking at so many different sci-fi inspired concept albums, Jack first became very interested in the Hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy, drawing us more in towards a space themed setting again. He then realised that nobody had tried to represent the planets in our solar system as the 9 nine realms from north mythology through music. Dragging him back to our original focus, we changed our idea to a more realistic setting. To create some sort of concept album journey that would correlate with the subject of the solar system instead of the planets.

We wanted to find out whether anybody had done anything like this before and we stumbled across Gustav Holsts. He put together an orchestral representation of the solar system called ‘Planets’. I decided that this project was going to be a great way to collaborate with other schools at the uni and professions. I wanted to get an assembly of musicians to perform the score that was already written by Gustav Holsts as we had found out that his score’s copyright had expired.

So we had our concept album idea, but we needed a way to showcase the idea. I had the idea of creating a virtual reality environment where you would be able to interact with 3D planets in the space and listen to their musical representation when close enough.
